Our Board & Train program is a perfect fit for those who are looking to enjoy an off leash life with their pet.

We create custom programming that focuses on obedience, but more importantly, on the overall mental state of each dog.

Many pets know how to sit or lie down, but still struggle with anxiety and find it challenging to maintain obedience when the environment becomes exciting or overwhelming. The consistency of living with and working with professional trainers 24/7 for the duration of your dog’s learning process is unparalleled when it comes to developing excellent, long lasting results.

Daycare Training Program

We offer a day training program, specifically designed for our local clients who want their pets to go to school while they are working hard at their own jobs! This service differs from our Board & Train programs as it allows owners to have a higher level of involvement in the initial learning process and enjoy quality time with their pets on evenings and weekends. Dogs will be able to socialize with dogs and enjoy trail walks on our 28 acre property, as well as learn off leash reliability. This program is excellent for puppies who are too young to complete a full 3 week Board & Train program, or for owners who live locally and would like to have their pets home with them in the evenings and on weekends.

Each program, whether daycare training or a full Board & Train package, requires the dedication and partnership of owners. We don’t mean just a partnership with us – but a true partnership between you and your dog after they come home! Our goal is to facilitate a better relationship and a better lifestyle between owners and their pets – because we, the trainers, don’t come live with you when the program ends! We will provide the resources and support for owners to reap the full benefits of their program, but without consistency and dedication, no result will remain long lasting.

But, what if I am struggling with aggression?

If your dog has severe and persisting leash reactivity, or has attempted or successfully bitten people or dogs – in-home private training is the right option for you!

The K9 Ranch Training Academy program director, Natalie Broekema, found her roots working with reactivity, aggression and anxiety in dogs and continues the work of rehabilitation still within the scope of PRIVATE lessons. The programming surrounding reactivity and aggression uses a combined approach of behaviour modification and obedience to address both the symptom (aggression) and the root (emotional and mental state) of the problem.

Natalie completed studies in behavioural psychology, originally working with human beings, before entering into the field of working with canines. The same science of working with behaviour and emotion informs how we train dogs, and owners, to develop a new relationship with each other and with the external world.

Like many dog trainers, Natalie was introduced to the world of dog training by her own dog, Percy. After exploring many different training approaches, including positive reinforcement only training, medication and behaviorists, to military-style trainers, she found balanced training as an alternative option. One that finally worked to address the persisting issues at hand. And this is how her company, Mindset Canine was formed – a private training company that specializes in aggression and anxiety and focuses on training dogs and empowering owners.

Natalie has a passion for working with dogs that have experienced the weight of covid, developing issues including dog-dog aggression, stranger danger, human aggression, territorial aggression, separation anxiety and resource guarding. Addressing these issues in-home creates the right environment for owners to do the work with their dogs, as dogs often experience aggression differently within the context of their home and their relationship with owners. A significant part of the training is helping owners develop both the skills and confidence to live with their dogs in new leadership, and to re-enter situations that previously would have been too difficult or intimidating. As a mobile dog trainer, in-home sessions can also include in town sessions or sessions in real environments owners currently struggle with outside of the home!
